Giving thanks to a sovereign God!

God has been writing an amazing story within the story of our lives the past several weeks as we found out in early October that we were expecting a fourth baby.  We were thrilled, humbled by God's blessing of a fourth child and began praying for this life that was so intricately being formed.

A couple weeks later, our dreams for this little one were vanishing as I had some bleeding and immediately suspected a miscarriage.  An ultrasound showed an empty sac with the diagnosis being a miscarriage.  We chose to forego any medical treatment and just wait until my body took care of things on its own.  We truly praise God for providing us with peace, joy and thankfulness amid the disappointment just knowing that this was part of His perfect plan for us.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.  Psalm 100:4-5 (NIV)

After 10 days of having no more signs of the miscarriage taking place, meanwhile dealing with symptoms of 1st trimester pregnancy, my doctor had me come to the office to discuss options.  Stephen and I had already decided we weren't ready to take any course of action until the diagnosis was confirmed and my doctor was very supportive and helped schedule an ultrasound at a different location that same week. 

Two days later, I arrived for the ultrasound knowing with God all things are possible and praying to see a heartbeat, but prepared to praise Him if the ultrasound confirmed the initial findings.  God had a wonderful gift in store for us as I watched in awe and wonder as a well-formed embryo appeared on the screen with a rapidly beating heart and then heard the ultrasound tech exclaim, "Do you see that beating heart??  I'm not a doctor, but I promise you this isn't a miscarriage!"
 

Psalm 139:15-16

My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be. 

Though this little life was hidden from human eyes for a time, our sovereign all-knowing God knew every detail and gave us wisdom and patience to wait for Him to reveal it to us. As we eagerly anticipate meeting our newest family member in mid-June, we thank God for His provision for abundantly providing us daily with reasons to praise Him for His goodness and sovereign plan.
